About Johanna ENOUGH

Dancing was not a part of Johannas life growing up.

“I always felt like something was missing. I knew my body wanted to move”

There was a specific event from Johanna’s childhood that left a mark in her memory and her confidence. This might have been the seed that gave Johanna the confidence and courage to become a dancer.

“I was about 9 years old, performing at a school event with some class mates. After the performance an older kid approached me and said - You’re gonna be a good dancer when you grow up - That moment left a huge impact on me and it stayed with me until this day.”

Focusing on school work, it would take many years before Johanna pursued dancing. In 2013 Johanna Graduated University with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science & Global Development, and a Masters Degree in Social Anthropology. It was during her university studies she finally got connected with dancing - through her love for Jamaican music. It was in 2008 at the age of 20 when Johanna saw Swedish Dancehall dancer Melpo Mellz performing at a dancehall club that the door opened up for Johanna to start dance. Johanna started taking dancehall classes for Melpo.

“In my very first dancehall class with Melpo I knew: This is what I wanna do for the rest of my life.”

After graduating, Johanna found herself too busy dancing to pursue a career within her field of study. The last years of University studies she focused completely on learning about dancehall. She did the fieldwork for her masters Thesis in Jamaica and wrote about the Jamaican dancehall dancers. You can find her masters thesis here.

“I never really chose a career as a dancer. I’ve just been so busy dancing that I haven’t had time to look for a job”

For Johanna the passion is not about dancing alone. It's about Jamaican culture. It’s about Dancehall. It was during a dance class teaching a large group of people Johanna got the idea. What if I bring all these people to Jamaica, and they will see, understand and appreciate the original source of the dance.
So she started Let’s Go To Jamaica.
